FOCUS Magazine: TotalEnergies' Journey in Singapore

Shaping the future of energy

France and Singapore have built a strong economic and business relationship over the past 60 years, with TotalEnergies playing a key role in Singapore’s energy landscape for decades. How has your presence evolved, and what role does Singapore play in your regional and global strategy today?

Singapore and France enjoy good bilateral relations and are deepening cooperation in emerging areas such as clean and renewable energy, green economies and sustainability.

TotalEnergies is a key player in Singapore's energy landscape with over 600 staff supporting activities in upstream, downstream, trading, manufacturing and research and development. Present in Singapore since 1982, TotalEnergies has grown alongside the country’s energy sector to meet its evolving needs.

As a global integrated energy company, TotalEnergies is committed to more energy, less emissions and more sustainable. We do this through our balanced, integrated multi-energy strategy built around two pillars – low cost, low emissions hydrocarbons, including LNG; and electricity, mostly from renewable sources.

Singapore serves as an important hub for us to access regional markets. Leveraging Singapore’s strategic location and connectivity, and strong talent base, the Republic is an important control tower for TotalEnergies to expand and support the energy transition needs of customers across the region.

How is TotalEnergies contributing to Singapore's lowcarbon ambitions? What key initiatives are driving innovation and creating value in the energy sector?

Climate change is a global challenge and a reality. As a world class energy company, we want to meet the challenge of the 21st century and play an active role in the transformation of the industry. It is imperative for us to reinvent and decarbonize energy while developing affordable energy solutions for the growing population.

We are committed to supporting the Singapore Green Plan 2030, driving the development of energy solutions with Singapore as a hub serving the regional markets.

Our regional initiatives are focused on:

  • Natural gas: Benefits from an integrated position across the LNG value chain, including production, transportation, trading and LNG bunkering. We are setting a new standard in monitoring of methane emissions by deploying continuous detection equipment on all our operated Upstream assets.
  • Low-carbon electricity: Expand our operations in the value chain, from power generation using renewables and natural gas to sales to end customers and energy storage (batteries and hydrogen).
  • Petroleum products: Produce responsibly by being the low cost/low emission producer, while promoting biofuels such as producing and distributing sustainable aviation fuel.
  • Carbon neutrality: Provide energy efficient services to our customers and invest in natural carbon sinks such as forests and wetlands, and in carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

Building partnerships, driving sustainable development, and identifying strategic technological synergies are key to our development and will help us realise our ambition to achieving Net Zero by 2050, together with society.
