TotalEnergies has been active in Kazakhstan since 1992 and holds a 16.81% stake in the North Caspian Sea Production Sharing Agreement, which includes the Kashagan field. Operated by the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), the consortium also includes KMG (16.88%), ENI (16.81%), ExxonMobil (16.81%), Shell (16.81%), CNPC (8.33%), and Inpex (7.56%). The Kashagan field, discovered in 2000, reached Final Investment Decision (FID) for Phase 1 in 2004 and began production in 2016. By 2019, it achieved a production plateau of 430,000 barrels per day (kb/d) of oil.
